The fourth call of the Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Networks scheme closed this week, on 27 November. Through this call, the European Union (EU) is expected to fund over 190 projects, with a budget of approx. €608.6 million. The European Research Executive Agency received 1417 proposals in total, one third more than in 2023. The agency received proposals from coordinators based in 34 countries. The UK put in the second largest amount of applications for this year's call.

The British Council and Higher Education Commission of Pakistan are welcoming proposals from institutions/organisations in the UK to organise an exposure visit and deliver STEM training for cohorts of university faculty members from Pakistan.
Applications are accepted from individual UK institution/organisations or from consortia involving other international institutions/organisations with the UK institution/organisation as the lead
British Council - Call for Governance & Leadership Experts
The British Council and the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan are seeking services from UK organisations to deliver a one-month certified course for academic leaders and university management on governance and leadership.
The project aims to enhance the academic planning, management, strategic planning, and leadership skills of registrars, treasurers, controllers, and deans across the higher education institutes in Pakistan.
The one-month certification will be offered on a blended learning model. Interested organisations in the UK are required to submit their proposal with the provision of at least one week of content delivered face-to-face in Pakistan and the rest to be delivered virtually through any platform.
Funding - British Academy Pump Priming Horizon Europe
The British Academy are inviting proposals from UK researchers, and proposals from UK led consortia containing EU/Associated Countries-based researchers, to pump prime collaborations to support the effective uptake of the opportunities provided by the UK’s association to Horizon Europe.
Awards of up to £10,000. This will cover collaboration preparation activities to enable multinational consortium building, as well as costs for developing the project ideas and gaining a better understanding of the market opportunities.
The expectation is that this funding will be utilised in a variety of ways but could include feasibility studies, application advice and training, partnership building, and dedicated resource to take forward an application.

Innovate UK are leading a Pump Priming scheme focused on supporting UK SMEs to develop proposals across a wide range of Horizon Europe opportunities. Successful applicants will have access to grant funding of up to £5,000 (excluding VAT). Applicants are also given access to a highly experienced Innovate UK Business Growth Innovation and Growth Specialist (IGS) to further support their innovation and growth journey.
With the aim of developing a consortium and applying to Horizon Europe, Pump Priming can help with:
Access to opportunities for collaborative research and innovation
Explore networking and partnership opportunities
Support with travel costs to meet with potential consortia and partners
Medical Research Council (MRC) Career development award. Apply for support to become an independent researcher, if your research focus is within Medical Research Council remit to improve human health.
You must:
have a PhD or equivalent
show evidence of career progression
show clear plans for establishing independence and developing as a leader in your area of research
